The body of the L. Lavone wave grooming tote is Quilted Maple. Native to North America Quilted Maple is not actually a species, but simply a description of a figure in the grain. Quilted maple occurs most often in soft maples, but is also seen in hard maples. Quilted maple is so named for its resemblance to patchwork patterns seen on fabric quilts. The figure on quilted maple becomes the most pronounced when the board has been flatsawn.
Padauk wood is used in the wave tote for the wave inlay and the end plugs. Padauk is an amazing bright orange wood from South Africa. With age and light its’ color will darken to a beautiful burnt umber color. The second wave and contrsting plus are made of Purpleheart. Found in Central and South America, this exotic wood is a bright, striking purple when freshly cut, darkening into a deeper purple with age. It has a medium to fine texture with a luster that ranges from medium to high; its grain is usually straight but can be wavy or irregular.
